Surprised by Grace in Modern Film:
Training the Eyes of Faith.

The 27th annual Craigville Colloquy on Cape Cod will focus on discovering the transforming power of Grace  in modern film.
"Movies are often used in congregations as an effective way to engage young people and adults in the great themes of alienation and redemption, conflict and reconciliation," says the Colloquy's Moderator, the Rev. Dr. Elsabeth Hilke. "This conference will allow participants to enjoy films as an invitation for in-depth theological reflection in the setting of a worshiping and praying Christian community. It should be especially useful for pastors, parish educators and any member of the church who loves movies. The Colloquy knits theological reflection, engaging Bible study and inspiring worship into an experience that feeds the mind and heart."
Keynoters are Dr. Lee Barrett of Lancaster Theological Seminary Dr. William Herzog II, Dean of Andover Newton Theological School. Dr. Barrett will explore the use of film to deepen our theological understanding of grace while Dr. Herzog will focus on biblical themes in modern film.
Liturgist is the Rev. Kathryn Matthews Huey, who will also lead a workshop on the creative use of movies as a tool for spiritual formation and education in local churches. Music director is David Debick.
Movie clips will be used during presentations and at least two full-length features will be screened during the week. Two ecumenical celebrations of the eucharist, a hymn sing, daily morning prayer, an evening service of Taizé music and small group sessions will round out the program.
